Creamy, nostalgic, and wonderfully simple, this Neiman Marcus Cake features a tender cake layer sandwiching a rich cream cheese filling, all studded with crunchy nuts.
1boxCake Mix (any flavor)Use your favorite boxed mix.
1stickButterMelted and slightly cooled.
2largeEggsRoom temperature if possible.
1cupChopped Nuts (Pecans or Walnuts)Toasted lightly for extra flavor (optional).
1packageCream Cheese8 oz, softened to room temperature.
1boxPowdered Sugar16 oz, sifted if lumpy for best texture.
1largeEggAdded to the cream cheese mixture.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by greasing it lightly or lining with parchment.
In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, melted butter, and 2 eggs until well blended. Stir until there are no dry pockets; the batter will be thick.
Fold in the chopped nuts and mix until evenly distributed.
In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the powdered sugar and the additional egg, mixing until fully incorporated and silky.
Grease a baking pan and pour half of the cake batter into it. Spread it carefully to create an even base layer.
Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the batter layer.
Pour the remaining batter over the cream cheese layer. Dollop and gently spread to cover the filling.
Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
Allow to cool before serving. Chill briefly if you prefer a firmer slice.

Store leftover cake covered in the refrigerator for up to 4–5 days. You can freeze individual slices wrapped well for up to 2 months.
